Strong Demand Across Global Markets
Key markets such as Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Oman recorded significant growth in import volumes, driven by increased demand and Kenya’s competitive positioning.
Emerging markets including Jordan, Ireland, Japan, and Malaysia also recorded strong growth, while regions such as Chad and South Sudan are rapidly developing as new demand centers.
Diversification strengthens Kenya’s position as a future-proof sourcing origin for international buyers.
Proven Resilience in a Disrupted Global Market
The 2025 performance was achieved despite global economic slowdown, strengthening of the Kenyan Shilling, and disruptions along key international shipping routes.
Exporters adapted by shifting logistics routes and maintaining supply continuity, ensuring Kenyan tea remained available across global markets.
This demonstrates a robust and adaptable supply chain capable of operating under complex global conditions.
Growth in Value-Added Tea Exports
Value-added tea exports reached 25.36 million kg, accounting for 4% of total export volume.
These include tea bags, retail-packed loose tea, and instant tea.
The Kenyan government continues to support value addition through tax incentives, packaging support, and development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
Distribution hubs are also being developed in key markets such as UAE, Ghana, and DRC to improve accessibility and streamline supply chains.
Supply Dynamics and Production Trends
Production in 2025 stood at 550.37 million kg, reflecting an 8.04% decline due to unfavourable weather conditions.
Orthodox tea production accounted for 15.34 million kg, forming the largest share of Kenya’s specialty tea segment.
Despite lower production, export availability remained stable.
This reflects Kenya’s ability to maintain consistent supply for bulk CTC markets while gradually expanding into premium orthodox tea segments.
